To lengthen the breath

When I do Ashtanga yoga I use jalandhara bandha, the throat bandha. It helps to lenghten the breath.
But why to lenghten the breath?
My pranayama teacher had an answer. A long and calm breath calms the mind.

And this is it what we can exercise on and off the mat. In daily life we might not want to use jalandhara bandha all the time, nevertheless a deep breath is possible. A deep breath might calm the mind also in daily life.

The breath remains my focus during my practice: Inhaling, pause, exhaling, pause, and so on.
Have a deep and long breath.

Hi Ursula -
Always there for me with a little nugget of wisdom when I need it.

Of course, long, deep breaths, calmer mind. Exactly what I needed to hear at that moment. Thanks.

I've been listening to this very old song lately. I never knew the words. Now I do - and I think you might like them:

More Than This - Roxy Music

I could feel at the time
There was no way of knowing
Fallen leaves in the night
Who can say where they´re blowing
As free as the wind
And hopefully learning
Why the sea on the tide
Has no way of turning

More than this - there is nothing
More than this - tell me one thing
More than this - there is nothing

It was fun for a while
There was no way of knowing
Like dream in the night
Who can say where we´re going
No care in the world
Maybe i´m learning
Why the sea on the tide
Has no way of turning

More than this - there is nothing
More than this - tell me one thing
More than this - there is nothing

As always, lots of good wishes
Sat Nam,
Marie

That is good advice. Breathing is very important to Yoga. Just like meditation. The way you breathe and the tempo can make a lot of difference to your Yoga experience.

Hi Marie,

Thank you very much for the nice song.

I wanted to give you an answer re your hint how to treat mosquito bites.

Unfortunately these bites bother me when I sit in a cafe or so. Then I do not have warm water. At home it takes too long till the warm water comes. I do not want to wait 10 min. Yes, usually I shower with cold water. It is good, it wakes me up. I try to focus on something else. This might perhaps also help me when I do meditation.

I hope you are in a good mood and your life is good.

All the best.

Ursula

Hi U -
I was thinking that you might have a problem getting HOT water. But how about this idea -

what if you used a little bit of tea? (discreetly) It's hot, readily available, and the tannins in the tea might also help with the itch???

Just a thought.

(You know, I'm not good but I'm still here and still learning. And I breathe.)

Namaste,
M
